The HOLLINGSWORTH company was established before the turn of the twentieth century by Mr. Pinckney C. Hollingsworth. It was a one-man operation with a mule-drawn machine shop on wheels that traveled to cotton mills in the Carolinas to perform repairs on textile machinery.
Mr. Pinckney Hollingsworth's son, Mr. John D. Hollingsworth, Sr., continued the business of traveling from mill to mill making repairs to textile machinery. He used the trade name "J. D. Hollingsworth by Himself."
In about 1919, to assist him in his mobile repair work, Mr. Hollingsworth, Sr., bought a new 1917 model Signal truck, which had a 4-cylinder Red Seal Continental engine with Bendix magneto and solid rubber tires.
In the mid 1920's, Mr. Hollingsworth built a large garage-workshop at the rear of his house, and in a few years, it was enlarged.
From a very early age, John D. Hollingsworth, Jr., traveled with his father, and together they worked toward making improvements with every succeeding job they performed. At that point, the company's trade name became "J. D. Hollingsworth & Son on Wheels."
Under the leadership of John D. Hollingsworth, Jr., the broad range of products developed and manufactured by HOLLINGSWORTH soon gained a worldwide reputation for their quality and contribution to high-speed carding. Extensive research and development resulted in a range of new carding accessories and enhanced card features that were incorporated into a program of card refurbishment and modernization.

An ultra-modern research and development center, located in Greenville, South Carolina, carries out tests and evaluations on a wide range of textile equipment and accessories and works with the industry to develop better products for the marketplace.
